Last year I was practicing at the Romanian Tennis Federation. Somewhere during the summer all the players were announced that there will be a problem with the practice courts for 3 days, as it will be hold a tournament. Nothing special, but then I heard that it was a tournament for wheelchair tennis. I said wheelchairtennis? I had the chance to see this in the USA, but I wondered at that time : does this exist in Romania too? My father went there to present the final and I went with him as I was curios. What can I say about what a feeling I had when I saw those people playing tennis and moving all around the court in a wheelchair… I was impressed! What a courage, what an ambition!
So after watching the matches I was interested to play with them. We kept in touch and this summer for about 3 weeks ago the foundation MOTIVATION (www.motivation.ro) organised a tennis camp in Bragadiru, so I was asked to go and be a volunteer. I went there. It was a sunny wednesday afternoon. We did some exercises for moving in the court and then we played.
During the almost 3 hours that we spent together I was impres
sed of the way they were trying to do their best. In the end I promised them that we will meet again and that I will try to do my best in helping them to get new balls, grips and rackets.
So I would like to ask everybody who would like to help them to get the requested items in order to give them the chance of playing tennis.
Who is interested in what I said, can come at the Romanian Tennis Federation on 14. august to see their tournament. I ask you all to come and experience the feeling that I had watching them playing.
P.S. Crina, one of the girls who was playing there got a wild card for the Paralympic Games in Beijing! So good luck Crina and enjoy it!
Good luck to the motivaton team!
Yours faithfully,
Iani
