Few moments alongside Cristina Stancu

Cristina Stancu is part of the Romanian tennis elite. She is now in the first 500 world\'s women\'s tennis players and she is motivated to be on top.
 
OpenTenis: How did you discover this sport?
Cristina Stancu: I discovered tennis when I was 7 years old. At first it was just a game. Because I had plenty of energy my parents thought it would be good for me to practice a sport. Slowly I was evolving, especially because I was playing for pleasure.
 
 
OpenTenis: Do you practice other sports in your leisure time?
Cristina Stancu: I like football and basketball. Sometimes I play football with the boys.


OpenTenis: Which is your favorite shot?
Cristina Stancu: Forehand.
 
 
OpenTenis: Which is your favorite tennis player?
Cristina Stancu: At the moment I like Nadal\'s and Justin\'s style to play.


OpenTenis: Who would you challenge for a tennis match? Why?
Cristina Stancu: I would chose Matina Hingis. I admired her very much since i was a child, and some family friends nicknamed me Hingis.
 
 
OpenTenis: Did you have moments when you wanted to give up?
Cristina Stancu: Yes, it happened last year. I was in Egypt in some tournaments where I played pretty bad, it was the beginning of the year, when it\'s harder, and I told myself that if I were to have another tournament as that one, I will hand the racket away. After this experience I stayed home for two weeks, afterwards I went along my mother at some tournaments, were I performed extremely good - I made two quarters, a semi-final, and won one. Last year I began at about 1000 and finished on 480.
 

OpenTenis: Do you have a certain diet before the important tournaments or you have a constant diet?
Cristina Stancu: Not necessarily, but I try to eat as much I can fruits and vegetables.


OpenTenis: What superstition do you have?
Cristina Stancu: I\'m not a superstitious person.
 


OpenTenis: Which is your best performance till now?
Cristina Stancu: Last year I won the Futures tournament in Craiova in singles and in doubles I won a tournament in Bosnia, when I teamed with Andreea Iova.
 

OpenTenis: How many rackets did you break till now?
Cristina Stancu: Till now I broke 3.
 


OpenTenis: Why do you like tennis?
Cristina Stancu: Because I\'m playing with pleasure.
 
 
OpenTenis: What is your favorite surface to play on?
Cristina Stancu: Clay.


OpenTenis: Do you have a favorite place where you like to play?
Cristina Stancu: Last year I played very much in Spain and I liked it a lot. Also the atmosphere and the players are ok, especially that you rarely find fair-play players.
 

OpenTenis: What do you pass on to the Open Tennis readers?
Cristina Stancu: I would like Romanians to sustain more the sport players and take part at the games in a bigger number.
