The interview of the month with ... Sergiu Margarit

[28 February 2010]

The interview of february has Sergiu Margarit in front, one of the Olimpia Top Team Players:

Olimpia Tennis: After finishing the National Championships from last year you had a longer period of training. Which was the reason?
Sergiu Margarit: That's right, after I finished with the objectives set by the club I had a long period of training more or less intense. As you might know autumn is a tough time for the tennis players because everybody has to switch between the outside courts with the inside ones and the solutions aren't always that good. I think, this year, Coach and I solve this problem very good. I was saying that it has been a longer period of training because of some achievements I wanted: first I've got my driver license, then I've applied for an University in England; after it has been the winter holyday spent in Morocco (though it was a bit longer, I found it very pleasant). After I came back from the vacation, the real training for tournament started...

Olimpia Tennis: You chose to start this year competition schedule with two Futures tournaments in Spain. Why?
Sergiu Margarit: Well, after the period of hard practice I went in Spain to play these two tournaments. It had to be Spain because the other tournaments in Turkey I've entered were too wanted, so I haven't been accepted on the qualifying draw.

Olimpia Tennis: How do you feel after the first matches?
Sergiu Margarit: When I arrived at the first tournament's sight a question came up in my mind: "What am I doing at the tournament now?". I thought I wasn't prepared for tournament... The first outside practice came, and then the first match, then the second match and meanwhile I figured out why am I at the tournament. I wanted to play and I was ready to play. After the first match I adapted to the outside conditions. The second match was awesome, speaking about my play and attitude, and I'm content even if I've lost.

Olimpia Tennis: Which are the tournaments you are going to play next?
Sergiu Margarit: Soon, will begin the Futures tournaments in Romania, so this Spring I will try to play as much as I can because this is my last year of high school and at the beginning of this summer I‘ll be having my final exams.

Olimpia Tennis:  After finishing high school you chose to study at a University in England. It is a good choice, instead of studying in Romania?
Sergiu Margarit: I chose to continue my studies in England because I'm not that optimist regarding the quality of the courses at the universities in Romania. Furthermore the degree obtained in England is accepted everywhere in the world. Of course, the idea of a new experience excites me and makes me to want to be better.

Olimpia Tennis: What do you want to achieve until you leave?
Sergiu Margarit: Until I leave I want to obtain an English certificate (the exam is scheduled on April) and regarding my tennis career as a player I want to obtain my first ATP points.
